The Digital Classroom provides Teaching with Lesson Plans containing reproducible copies of documents from the National Archives. This site also contains tips and topics for conducting research.
Teacher Vision is a lesson plan site just for teachers. When you search under democracy for example, plans such as “Election Vocabulary” and “Know Your Rights” , all grade appropriate, are provided. Also search under voting and elections for more great plans. As is stated, “A democracy is built upon elections!”
The Sunshine State Young Reader’s Award Program is a statewide reading motivation program for students in grades 3-8. The program, cosponsored by the School Library Media Services Office of the Department of Education and the Florida Association for Media in Education (FAME), began in 1983. In 2003-2004 there were over 1,100 public schools and 72 non-public schools participating. Over 101,000 students read enough books to qualify for voting in the statewide balloting for their favorite book for the year.
The National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS) established the New Millennium Young Voters Project in 1998 to try to re-engage more young people in the democratic process. New Millennium is a national campaign designed primarily to increase civic engagement levels among the nation’s 18-24 year-olds.
It’s unique, it’s fun and it works! Kids Voting USA combines dynamic, hands-on civics activities with an authentic voting experience to get students involved and ready to be active citizens.
The Center for Politics promotes the value of politics and seeks to improve civics education and increase civic participation through comprehensive research, pragmatic analysis, and innovative educational programs.
The Florida Civic Ed’s Teacher’s Page will soon include lesson plans, audio and visual aids, slide presentations, test banks, and many more resources to help teachers develop civic education classes. You will also find teacher guides for the use of this site. Lesson plans are designed around Sunshine State Standards.
