Election Workers work either during Early Voting or at the precinct on Election Day. There are five (5) different positions for Election Workers: Clerk, Assistant Clerk, Inspector, Tech, and Poll Deputy.
You can call the Supervisor of Elections Office (772-288-5637) and request a Election Worker application, or you may complete an online request form. Once the application has been completed and sent to us, you will be contacted to attend an orientation session.
The Clerk is in charge of the Early Voting site or Precinct.
The Assistant Clerk assists the Clerk with the election process.
The Inspector verifies voter’s information with an electronic pollbook (EViD), issues voter passes and ballots.
The Tech opens and closes voting equipment and assists voters, as needed.
The Poll Deputy is responsible for setting up the signs outside the polling location in the morning and taking them down at night. During the day, the deputy remains at the entrance of the precinct to greet the voters and ask them to have their ID ready. They are also responsible for maintaining order at the precinct.
Orientation
All new election workers are required to attend an orientation. Orientation is approximately two hours long and is designed to familiarize a prospective election worker with elections in Martin County. Some of the topics discussed are duties on Election Day, hours to be worked, election training sessions, physical requirements and rates of pay. This meeting is beneficial to new election workers because it may help them decide if the job is right for them.
Election Training Sessions
Florida Statutes require that all election workers attend mandatory training sessions for each election cycle.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements include standing, bending, stooping, lifting approximately 18 lbs., normal vision and manual/physical dexterity.
Work Hours
Early Voting begins at 7:45 A.M. and ends at 5:00 P.M. daily.
Election Day begins at 5:45 A.M. and ends at approximately 8:00 P.M.
